Business SIM-only plans let you keep your own handsets and pay a monthly fee for calls, texts and data. Compared with consumer plans, they are priced ex VAT, billed to the company and often come with extras such as shared data, roaming bundles and account management.
Prices below come from each provider's own business pages, excluding VAT, checked in October 2026. Most providers add a fixed amount to the monthly price each spring, so we include that too. Offers change often, so check the live page before you order.
EE offers 30-day, 12-month and 24-month business SIM-only plans, all with unlimited UK calls and texts. Stay Connected Data keeps you online at 0.5Mbps if you run out. 5 · Best for shared and rollover data
Sky Business Mobile
SIM-only plans on the O2 network
Sky Business launched SIM-only plans for small and medium businesses in October 2025, using the same O2 network agreement as Sky Mobile. Unused data rolls into a Databank for 12 months and is shared automatically with team members who run out. At launch, Sky said it would not raise prices mid-contract, and existing Sky Business customers get a discount on the monthly price.
Unused data rolls over for 12 months
Data shared across the team
No mid-contract price rises promised at launch
Discount for existing Sky Business customers
Watch out: Sky's live plan page would not load for us, so confirm current prices and price-rise terms with Sky before ordering.
BT Business sells SIM-only plans on EE's network for businesses with 1 to 10 employees, with unlimited minutes and texts. The Stay Connected promise keeps email, WhatsApp and maps working at 0.5Mbps if data runs out. All Rounder and Full Works plans let you pick Inclusive Extras such as roaming with no extra charges.
Runs on the EE network
One supplier for broadband and mobile
Remote eSIM activation
Access to BT Wi-Fi hotspots
Watch out: Its SIM-only page does not list prices, so you need to check plans or arrange a call.
Check coverage at your office and at the places your team works most, using each network's own coverage checker. Then pick a data allowance based on real usage from your current bills rather than guesswork.
Look carefully at roaming. A daily roaming fee of £2 to £2.38 adds up quickly for frequent travellers, so a plan with roaming included or an add-on can be cheaper overall.
Coverage: at the office, at home and on regular routes
Data: use current bills to size allowances, or choose shared or rollover data
Roaming: included destinations, data caps and the daily fee without a bundle
Contract length: 30-day for flexibility, 24 months for lower prices
Price rises: the fixed amount added each spring
eSIM support: lets you set up new lines remotely
Security and management: controls for lost phones and adding or removing users
How to choose for a team
For a small team, putting everyone on the same provider keeps billing in one place. If usage varies a lot between people, shared data or rollover, such as Sky Business's Databank, avoids paying for big allowances that only one or two people use.
If staff travel often, compare Vodafone's Premier plans, O2's Plus and Ultimate tariffs or Three's Go Roam add-ons against EE's unlimited plans with EU roaming. For teams that also need new broadband, bundling can bring extras, such as Virgin Media's speed boost with an O2 SIM or Sky's discount for its broadband customers.
Pull three months of usage from current bills
List who travels abroad and where
Check whether 30-day plans suit short-term or seasonal staff
Ask about multi-SIM discounts before ordering
Port existing numbers using a PAC code so nobody loses their number
Tax: when a work phone is a taxable benefit
Business mobile comparisons rarely mention tax. GOV.UK says there is nothing to report and no tax or National Insurance on a work phone if you provide only one mobile phone or SIM card to an employee and the contract is between your business and the supplier.
Second phones or SIMs for the same employee fall outside the exemption
Paying an employee's own personal contract is treated differently from a company contract
Phones provided through salary sacrifice must be reported
So for staff phones, put the contract in the company's name
Keeping your numbers when you switch
Ofcom's text-to-switch service lets you text PAC to 65075 to get a code that moves your number, and the new provider must complete the switch within one working day. Ofcom says that if an account has more than one number on it, you request the codes by calling the provider or using its website.
For a team, ask the current provider for a PAC for every line, use them promptly, and agree a single switch date with the new provider so nobody is without a working number.
Price rises: check the clause
Ofcom's pounds-and-pence rule for new contracts since 17 January 2025 gives small businesses and not-for-profits less protection than consumers: providers must state the monthly price in pounds and pence before you sign, but business contracts can include other types of price increase. If a rise goes beyond what the contract says, Ofcom says you must get at least 30 days' notice and can leave within 30 days without exit fees.
Questions people ask
Can I get a business SIM-only plan as a sole trader?
Generally yes. Vodafone has a section for small businesses and sole traders, and BT's SIM-only plans are aimed at firms with 1 to 10 employees. Check each provider's eligibility terms when you order.
Are business mobile prices shown with or without VAT?
UK business mobile providers usually quote prices excluding VAT at 20%. EE, Vodafone and Three all state prices ex VAT on their business SIM pages.
Do business mobile prices go up each year?
Most do, by a fixed amount. EE adds £2.08 and Vodafone £2.09 a month (ex VAT) each spring, O2 adds £1.50, and Three adds 50p to £1.50 depending on the plan.
Which business mobile plan includes free EU roaming?
O2 Business includes up to 25GB of EU roaming, and EE's unlimited plans include 60GB a month under fair use. Vodafone includes EU roaming on its Plus and Premier plans.
Is a company mobile phone a taxable benefit?
Not if you give an employee only one phone or SIM and the contract is between the company and the network. Extra phones, paying an employee's personal contract, and salary sacrifice arrangements are treated differently.
How do I keep our numbers when switching business mobile provider?
Ask your current provider for a PAC for each line. For a single number you can text PAC to 65075; accounts with several numbers request codes by phone or online. The new provider must complete each switch within one working day.
