Best travel eSIMs for business trips abroad

Six travel eSIM providers for UK business travellers, from pay-per-trip plans to team dashboards, with what each costs and where it falls short.

A travel eSIM gives you local mobile data abroad without swapping a plastic SIM or paying your home network's daily roaming fee. You buy a plan online, scan a QR code or install it in an app, and switch it on when you land. Your usual number can stay active on the main SIM for calls and texts.

The providers below are all operating now and sell to UK customers. Most are data-only. We have compared them on their published plans and features; we have not tested them hands-on. Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked before you buy.

1 · Best overall

Airalo

Local, regional and global eSIMs in 200+ destinations

Airalo is one of the largest eSIM stores, with local, regional and global plans. Some packages include calls and texts as well as data. Its Airalo for Business platform lets a company assign eSIMs, set spending limits per employee or branch, and get one consolidated monthly invoice.

  • Wide choice of countries and plan sizes
  • Prices shown in pounds
  • Business dashboard with budget caps and SSO
  • No sign-up fee for business accounts

Watch out: Its US page did not say whether hotspot sharing is allowed, so check the plan details if you need to tether a laptop.

2 · Best for unlimited data

Holafly

Country, regional and monthly global plans

Holafly's plans are sold as unlimited data for the length of the trip, so you do not have to estimate gigabytes. Hotspot sharing is allowed up to 1GB a day. Plans run from 1 to 90 days and expire on their own.

  • No data cap to track
  • Plans from 1 to 90 days
  • Hotspot sharing up to 1GB a day
  • Backup 1GB a month in 150+ countries while installed

Watch out: Speeds can be reduced under a fair use policy, and the hotspot allowance is tight if you work from a laptop.

3 · Best for security features

Saily

Country, regional and global passes in 200+ destinations

Saily is from Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN. The app includes an ad blocker and web protection that blocks known phishing and malware sites, plus a virtual location feature. Business eSIM plans are available by enquiry through Saily's business contact form.

  • Built-in ad and tracker blocking
  • Phishing and malware site protection
  • Business plans on request

Watch out: Plans are data-only, so calls and texts stay on your usual SIM and roaming charges may apply to those.

Ubigi

200+ destinations on 4G and 5G

Ubigi is a brand of Transatel, part of the NTT Group. • eSIM and physical SIM options
  • Can bill the company directly

Watch out: Business prices are not published, so you need to request a quote.

5 · Best per-GB value

Nomad

Local and regional plans in 200+ destinations

6 · Best for occasional, multi-country trips

Roamless

One global eSIM for 200+ destinations

Roamless works from a prepaid balance on a single eSIM, so you do not need a new plan for each country. Roamless says its credits never expire, which suits people who travel a few times a year. You can also call and text using credits, and there are fixed data and unlimited plans.

  • One eSIM for every country
  • Credits do not expire
  • Calls and texts available on credit
  • Fixed and unlimited plans too

Watch out: Per-GB rates were not shown on its homepage, so compare costs for your destination before topping up.

What to look for

Start with where you are going and for how long. A single-country plan is usually cheapest for one destination, while a regional or global plan saves hassle on a multi-stop trip.

Then check how you work. If you tether a laptop to your phone, hotspot allowances matter more than the headline data figure.

  • Coverage: the countries you visit, and which local network the eSIM uses
  • Data: fixed gigabytes, pay as you go, or unlimited with fair use limits
  • Hotspot: whether sharing is allowed and how much
  • Calls and texts: most travel eSIMs are data-only
  • Validity: when the plan starts (on install or on first connection) and how long it lasts
  • Billing: company invoicing, expense exports and spending limits for teams
  • Support: 24/7 chat helps when you land late at night

How to choose for a team

For a handful of occasional travellers, letting staff buy their own plan and claim it on expenses is often simplest. Once trips are regular, a business account pays for itself in admin time: Airalo for Business and Ubigi for Business both offer central billing and usage controls, and Saily takes business enquiries.

Write a short policy that says which provider to use, what plan size is reasonable and when to turn off data roaming on the main SIM. Make sure company phones are unlocked and support eSIM before anyone travels.

  • Check every handset supports eSIM and is unlocked
  • Set a standard plan size per trip type
  • Use central billing or a company card to avoid expense claims
  • Remind staff to switch off roaming on their UK SIM to avoid daily fees

Getting an invoice your accounts team can use

Consumer eSIM reviews rarely mention paperwork, but a business needs a receipt or invoice in the company's name. What we found on each provider's own pages on 27 October 2026:

  • Airalo for Business: purchases can be billed to the organisation and roll into one monthly invoice, or staff pay by card and the spend syncs with your expense system.
  • Ubigi for Business: plans can be billed directly to the company, or staff buy their own and claim them as travel expenses.
  • Holafly: request an invoice in the app under Profile, Purchase receipts, then Request Invoice; to change the details on an invoice, email help@holafly.com.
  • Nomad: a PDF receipt is emailed after purchase, and support can customise the invoice with your company name or tax ID. Orders paid fully with Nomad Points cannot be invoiced.
  • Saily and Roamless: ask before buying if you need company details on the invoice.

VAT on travel eSIMs: why there is often nothing to reclaim

Most travel eSIM sellers are based outside the UK. When a UK business buys services from an overseas supplier, the B2B general rule in HMRC's Notice 741A treats the supply as made where the customer belongs, and the UK customer usually accounts for any VAT under the reverse charge.

Telecoms have an extra rule. Under the use and enjoyment provisions in section 13 of the notice, UK VAT is due only on the part of a telecoms service that is not used and enjoyed outside the UK. Data used entirely on a trip abroad will usually fall outside UK VAT, so there may be no UK VAT to reclaim at all. Ask your accountant how to code these purchases, and keep the invoice for your records either way.

Questions people ask

Can I keep my UK number while using a travel eSIM?

Yes, on a dual-SIM phone. Your UK SIM stays active for calls and texts while the eSIM handles data, but your UK network may charge for calls and texts abroad.

Is a travel eSIM cheaper than roaming on my UK plan?

Often, especially outside Europe. UK networks typically charge a daily fee for roaming, while a travel eSIM charges per plan or per gigabyte, so compare the two for your destination and trip length.

Do travel eSIMs work for hotspot and laptops?

It depends on the provider. Nomad says hotspot is supported, while Holafly allows up to 1GB a day of sharing. Check the plan details before relying on it for work.

When should I install a travel eSIM?

Install it at home on Wi-Fi before you leave, but only switch it on when you land. Some plans start their validity when the eSIM first connects to a network abroad.

Which eSIM is best for business travel?

It depends on how your team travels. For central billing and per-employee limits, Airalo for Business and Ubigi for Business are the strongest options here. For heavy data users on one trip, Holafly's unlimited plans avoid running out.

Which eSIM is best for worldwide travel?

For several countries on one trip, a regional or global plan saves buying one per country. Airalo sells global plans, Ubigi offers one profile valid in more than 200 destinations, Nomad has Global plans lasting up to a year, and Roamless runs on a prepaid balance that works across countries.

Can a business get a VAT invoice for a travel eSIM?

You can usually get an invoice in the company's name, but most sellers are overseas, so they do not charge UK VAT. Under HMRC's Notice 741A, data used abroad is usually outside UK VAT, so there is often nothing to reclaim.
