We screen UK office suppliers for travel adapters, USB-C chargers and power banks and show the price spread, so you can see which features cost more.

Which plug do you need?

Several common business destinations use the same three-pin plug as the UK, so you may not need an adapter at all. Figures from WorldStandards:

  • Same as the UK (type G, 230V): Ireland, the UAE including Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong.
  • France and Belgium: types C and E, 230V.
  • Germany and the Netherlands: types C and F, 230V.
  • Switzerland: types C and J, 230V. A standard European adapter will not fit every Swiss socket.
  • United States: types A and B, 120V. Japan: types A and B, 100V.
  • India: types D and M. Australia: type I. China: types A and I.

Charging a laptop

  • Most adapters only change the plug shape, not the voltage. Finding the Universe notes that high-powered appliances may need a voltage converter, so check the label on anything with a heating element.
  • If the adapter has USB-C ports, check the wattage. Finding the Universe notes that about 65W from one port is needed to charge most ultrabooks and MacBook Airs.
  • Wattage is shared when several devices are plugged in, so a laptop may charge slower with a phone attached.
  • BS 8546 is the British standard written for travel adapters. It is worth asking suppliers whether a model meets it.

Power banks: the flying rules

New UK Civil Aviation Authority rules took effect on 27 March 2026. Pack power banks in cabin bags, never in the hold.

  • No more than two power banks per person.
  • Up to 100Wh: allowed without airline approval. Over 100Wh and up to 160Wh: needs the airline's approval.
  • They must not be recharged on board, and should not be used to charge other devices during the flight.
  • Protect each one from short circuits when not in use, for example in its own pouch.

Questions people ask

What is the best travel adapters and chargers in the UK?

On our shortlist, the Verbatim Charge 'n' Go Magnetic Wireless Power Bank 5000mAh Green is the best overall pick at £30.99 from Back to the Office. For a tighter budget, the Juice JUI-PBANK-5-ECO-BLK power bank 15000 mAh Black (£19.99) is our best-value choice.

How much should I pay for travel adapters and chargers?

Most of the 249 UK listings we screened sit between £23 and £66, with a middle price of £36. Trade suppliers often show prices before VAT, so add 20% if you can't reclaim it.

Can a business reclaim VAT on travel adapters and chargers?

A VAT-registered business can usually reclaim the VAT on equipment bought for business use, as long as it holds a valid VAT invoice from the supplier. Ask the seller for one at checkout.

Where can I buy travel adapters and chargers for a business?

The picks here come from Back to the Office. Most UK trade suppliers offer next-day delivery and VAT invoices; some offer credit accounts for regular orders.

Which travel adapter is best for business trips?

Choose one with at least one USB-C port that gives about 65W, so it can charge a laptop, plus a second port for a phone. Check that it accepts a UK plug on the input side and ask whether it meets BS 8546.

Do I need an adapter for Dubai or Singapore?

No. The UAE and Singapore use the same type G three-pin plug as the UK, at 230V.

Can I take a power bank on a plane from the UK?

Yes, in your cabin bag. Since 27 March 2026 the CAA allows up to two per person. Power banks up to 100Wh need no approval and those up to 160Wh need the airline's approval. They must not be recharged on board.

Do I need a voltage converter in the US?

Most adapters only change the plug shape. Check the voltage range printed on each charger before you go; high-powered appliances such as hairdryers are the items that may need a converter for the US's 120V supply.
