Air purifier reviews usually test one unit in one room. For an office, the questions are whether the filter grade is genuine, whether the unit is big enough for the space and how it fits alongside your ventilation duties.
This shortlist covers HEPA purifiers and replacement filters from UK trade catalogues. The notes below explain filter grades and how to size a unit for a room.

In Europe, filters are classed under EN 1822 by how much of the hardest-to-catch particle size they stop. MANN+HUMMEL's summary of the classes gives E10 at 85% or more, E11 at 95%, E12 at 99.5%, H13 at 99.95% and H14 at 99.995%.
Words such as HEPA-type or HEPA-style on a listing do not tell you the class, so look for the EN 1822 grade, such as H13, on the filter specification. Meaco's office purifier example uses an H11 filter as standard with an optional H13 upgrade, which shows why the grade is worth checking.
Sizing with CADR and air changes
CADR, the clean air delivery rate, is the volume of filtered air a purifier delivers. AHAM, which runs the US test, suggests a CADR of at least two thirds of the room's floor area in square feet, and notes that rooms with ceilings higher than 8 feet need a unit rated for a larger room.
For UK rooms it is easier to think in air changes per hour. Divide the CADR in cubic metres per hour by the room volume in cubic metres. Meaco, for example, rates one model for rooms up to 126 cubic metres based on three air changes per hour.
Measure length, width and ceiling height to get the room volume.
Check the CADR on the highest setting and on the quieter setting staff will actually use.
Large or open-plan spaces may need more than one unit.
Budget for replacement filters, which this shortlist includes.
Purifiers and your ventilation duty
HSE says employers must make sure there is adequate ventilation in enclosed areas, and that regulation 6 of the Workplace Regulations requires every enclosed workplace to be ventilated by a sufficient quantity of fresh or purified air. Meaco, citing government guidance, notes that air cleaning is not a substitute for good ventilation.
So treat a purifier as an addition to fresh air, not a replacement for it. They can help most in rooms that are hard to ventilate, such as internal meeting rooms.
