HSE's guidance on workplace facilities lists a supply of toilet paper, enough soap or other washing agent, a way of drying hands such as paper towels or a hot-air dryer, hot and cold or warm running water, and somewhere for female workers to dispose of sanitary dressings.
HSE also sets minimum numbers of toilets and washbasins in its Approved Code of Practice L24. For mixed or women-only use it is one of each for 1 to 5 people, two for 6 to 25, three for 26 to 50, four for 51 to 75 and five for 76 to 100. That is the number of dispensers you will be keeping stocked.
Many commercial dispensers take one system of refill. Tork, for example, labels each dispenser and refill with a system code, and its T4 conventional roll dispenser lists only T4 refills as compatible. Before switching brand or format, check the dispenser model or code on the unit.
Larger formats such as jumbo and centrefeed rolls hold more paper per roll, so they need changing less often in busy washrooms. C-fold and Z-fold hand towels need a towel dispenser of the right size.
