Pouches are sold by thickness in microns. Fellowes sells pouches from 80 to 250 microns and says the higher the number, the thicker and more rigid the pouch. RS Components notes that the total thickness of a sealed pouch is roughly double the single-side rating, so always check which figure a pack quotes.
Thin pouches suit notices and short-term papers. Thicker ones suit menus, signs and anything handled every day. Fellowes advises checking that pouches are compatible with your machine, as some laminators limit pouch size and thickness.
