Microsoft runs a certification programme for headsets, speakerphones, webcams and monitors. It says certified devices work plug and play with no extra setup and offer call control in Teams. Certified audio devices offer answer, hang-up, mute and volume controls with wide-band audio and echo cancellation. Certified video devices meet requirements for noise, colour, image detail, jitter, latency, frame rate and field of view, and all certified devices support firmware updates.
Microsoft's certified list includes the HP 620/625 FHD webcam, the Logitech Brio 500 family and the Poly Sync 10 speakerphone, all of which appear on this shortlist. Zoom runs its own programme, and says certified devices must be recertified every two years.
A desk webcam is built for one person at arm's length. For a room with a group around a table, you need a wider field of view and a microphone that can hear the far end of the table, which usually means a speakerphone or a video bar.
Microsoft notes that shared devices such as speakerphones and cameras have a supported usage distance, and certified shared devices are tested against defined room sizes and noise levels. Check that distance against your table before you order.
