Best business class from London to New York

The five business class cabins flying nonstop from Heathrow to New York, compared on seat, lounge, Wi-Fi and how well you can work on board.

London to New York is the busiest premium route out of the UK, so you have real choice. Every option below flies nonstop from Heathrow. Four land at JFK and one lands at Newark.

The big differences for a work trip are the seat (does it have a door and direct aisle access), the lounge before you fly, and whether the Wi-Fi is free and fast enough for email and calls. Fares move daily on this route, so we have not printed prices. Check live fares on the airline's own site.

1 · Best overall

British Airways Club Suite

Heathrow (mainly Terminal 5) to New York JFK

British Airways says all of its Heathrow to JFK flights now use Club Suite, its business seat with a privacy door, direct aisle access and a lie-flat bed. It began fitting free Starlink Wi-Fi for every passenger in March 2026, starting with the Boeing 787, though not every aircraft has it yet.

  • Club Suite on every Heathrow–JFK flight
  • Privacy door and direct aisle access
  • Several flights a day to choose from

Watch out: Free Starlink Wi-Fi is still being fitted, so your aircraft may not have it yet.

2 · Best airport experience

Virgin Atlantic Upper Class

Heathrow Terminal 3 to New York JFK

Upper Class passengers at Heathrow can use the Upper Class Wing, where staff take your bags at the car and walk you through a private security channel to the Clubhouse lounge. Every seat turns into a fully flat bed of up to 6ft 7in, with a privacy door or divider. Virgin says Starlink Wi-Fi is now on its A350 fleet, with more aircraft to follow.

  • Private check-in and security at Heathrow
  • Clubhouse lounge with menu and bar
  • Starlink Wi-Fi on the A350

Watch out: The seat, onboard bar or social space and Wi-Fi depend on which aircraft you get, so check before you book.

3 · Newest seat to watch

American Airlines Flagship Suite

Heathrow Terminal 3 to New York JFK

American is refitting its 20 Boeing 777-300ERs with 70 Flagship Suite seats, each with a privacy door, and says the fleet flies its main long-haul routes including London. The first refitted aircraft flew in September 2026. American says every 777-300ER has free high-speed Wi-Fi.

  • New suites with doors
  • Free Wi-Fi on the 777-300ER
  • Flies from Heathrow Terminal 3

Watch out: The refit has only just started, so many London flights may still use older seats. Check the seat map.

4 · Best for free Wi-Fi

Delta One

Heathrow Terminal 3 to New York JFK

Delta One seats turn into 180-degree flat beds and Delta offers free Delta Sync Wi-Fi on your own devices. At JFK you can use a Delta One Lounge.

  • Free Wi-Fi on your own devices
  • Flat bed
  • Delta One Lounge at JFK

Watch out: Delta's own page does not promise a closing door, and its new suites are not due until 2027.

5 · Best for Newark and New Jersey

United Polaris

Heathrow Terminal 2 to Newark (EWR)

United's Newark to London flight was the first widebody transatlantic flight in its fleet with Starlink, in June 2026. Starlink is free for MileagePlus members, and United aims to have it on every widebody by summer 2027. Newark can be quicker than JFK if your meetings are in New Jersey or downtown Manhattan.

  • Free Starlink for MileagePlus members
  • Flies from Heathrow Terminal 2
  • Useful if you are going to New Jersey

Watch out: It lands at Newark, not JFK, and not every aircraft has Starlink yet.

Which London airport?

All five options leave from Heathrow. British Airways uses Terminal 5 for most flights. Virgin Atlantic, American and Delta use Terminal 3. United uses Terminal 2. Codeshares fly from the operating airline's terminal, so check your booking.

Working on board

For a day flight to New York, Wi-Fi matters most. Free Starlink is arriving fast on this route but is not yet on every aircraft at BA, Virgin or United. If you need to be online, check your airline's app before you fly.

For the overnight flight home, a seat with a door and direct aisle access makes it easier to sleep without being disturbed. BA Club Suite and American's new Flagship Suite both have doors.

  • Check the aircraft type and seat map before paying for a fare.
  • Join the airline's free loyalty scheme, as some Wi-Fi is free only for members.
  • Charge devices in the lounge, as power outlets vary by seat.

Costs beyond the fare

Every business class ticket from a UK airport carries Air Passenger Duty at the standard rate, which HMRC applies to any class above the lowest. For flights from 1 April 2026 that is £244 per passenger to band B countries such as the United States, against £102 in economy. It rises to £251.95 from 1 April 2027.

There is no UK VAT to reclaim on the ticket itself. HMRC's VAT Notice 744A zero-rates scheduled flights, so finance teams should not expect a VAT line on an airline receipt.

A PA's checklist before booking New York

Most ranking pages compare seats. Few cover what the person booking needs to check for someone else.

  • ESTA or visa: the traveller needs a valid ESTA or a US visa. The FCDO warns an ESTA may not be enough for all business travel, especially work for a US company, so check the rules on the official ESTA site.
  • Passport: the FCDO says it must be valid for the length of the planned stay.
  • Aircraft: Virgin's 787-9 and A330-300 still have the older 1-1-1 Upper Class seat facing away from the window, while BA now uses Club Suites on its Heathrow to JFK aircraft. Check the aircraft on the booking.
  • Fare rules: read the change and refund terms before paying, as meetings in New York often move.
  • Profile details: add the traveller's loyalty number, passport details and any dietary needs to the booking.
  • Receipts: save the e-ticket receipt for the expense claim.
