Best Heathrow airport hotels for an early flight

Six Heathrow hotels that put you a short walk, pod ride or free train from your terminal, so a 6am departure does not start at 3am.

For an early flight from Heathrow, the terminal matters more than the star rating. Heathrow has four working terminals spread across a large site, and a hotel that is ideal for Terminal 5 can be a 20-minute transfer from Terminal 4.

We have grouped these picks by terminal and looked at how each one actually links to the check-in desks: covered walkway, driverless pod or free inter-terminal train. Prices below are what Kayak showed for specific nights in late October and early November 2026, so treat them as a guide and check live rates for your date.

1 · Best for Terminal 5

Sofitel London Heathrow

Terminal 5, linked by covered walkway

The hotel is connected to Terminal 5 by a covered walkway, and the hotel says the walk takes under five minutes. That suits anyone flying British Airways or another Terminal 5 airline at first light. It is a large hotel with 605 rooms and suites, complimentary Wi-Fi and underground parking beneath the building.

  • Covered walk to Terminal 5 check-in
  • Underground car park with park, sleep and fly packages
  • Large meeting and events space for a pre-flight meeting

Watch out: Guests note the walkway is long for anyone with limited mobility, and bar and restaurant prices are high.

2 · Best for Terminal 4

Hilton London Heathrow Airport

Terminal 4, linked by covered walkway

The only Hilton actually on the Terminal 4 site, joined to the terminal by a covered walkway that guests put at roughly five to eight minutes. It has 398 rooms, an executive lounge, meeting rooms, a gym and an indoor pool, which helps if you arrive the evening before and need to work.

  • Walk to Terminal 4 departures without going outside
  • Executive lounge and meeting rooms
  • Several places to eat on site

Watch out: Hilton lists standard in-room Wi-Fi at £14.99 (check whether a free Hilton Honors membership covers it), and on-site parking is listed at £33 a day. Do not confuse it with the Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, which is about three miles away.

3 · Best for Terminals 2 and 3

Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3

Terminal 2, Cessna Road, linked by covered walkway

Hilton says the hotel connects to Terminal 2 by a covered walkway, with Terminal 3 reached through the pedestrian underpass. That covers Star Alliance carriers in Terminal 2 and many long-haul airlines in Terminal 3. Hilton lists a work desk and complimentary Wi-Fi in each room, plus a business centre.

  • Walking distance to two terminals
  • Desk, coffee maker and free Wi-Fi in rooms
  • Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 Tube and rail station close by

Watch out: Hilton lists no self-parking or valet parking, so it does not suit anyone driving to the airport. Breakfast is extra.

4 · Best value

Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4

Sheffield Road, Terminal 4

A 613-room Premier Inn that the chain describes as about a 10-minute walk from Terminal 4. Premier Plus rooms add an upgraded workspace, faster Wi-Fi, a coffee machine and a mini-fridge, which is a sensible upgrade for a working evening. There is a Thyme restaurant on site for dinner and breakfast.

  • Low rates for an on-airport hotel
  • Premier Plus rooms with a proper workspace
  • Discounted parking listed at £29 a night (limited spaces)

Watch out: Parking is first come, first served with only 70 spaces, and Terminal 4 only: you need a train or bus for the other terminals.

£43–£55 a night for a Sunday in early November (Kayak listing), checked 27 Oct 2026Visit official site

5 · Best for drivers

Thistle London Heathrow Terminal 5

Bath Road, Longford, linked to Terminal 5 by Heathrow Pod

This hotel has its own station on the Heathrow Pod network, the driverless shuttle to Terminal 5. Thistle says the ride takes about five minutes and runs from 4am to 12.15am. On-site parking and a stay, park and fly package make it practical if you are driving in the night before.

  • Pod to Terminal 5 from 4am
  • On-site parking with stay, park and fly packages
  • Executive rooms available

Watch out: The pod costs £8.75 per person per journey, payable at reception, and guests describe some rooms as dated.

£50–£70 a night for standard rooms on a Saturday in late October (Kayak listing), checked 27 Oct 2026Visit official site

6 · Best for a short stay inside the terminal

Aerotel London Heathrow

Terminal 3 Arrivals Hall, East Wing

Aerotel is inside the Terminal 3 arrivals hall and can be booked by the hour or overnight, so you can match the stay to your flight time. It is landside, so departing guests still go through security in the morning, but there is no transfer at all for Terminal 3 flights. There is a Library Lounge with Wi-Fi and USB ports for working.

  • Inside Terminal 3, no transfer needed
  • Hourly booking to fit flight times
  • Short walk to Terminal 2 via the underpass

Watch out: Rooms are compact and overnight rates are not cheap for what you get compared with the Premier Inn options.

Where to stay by terminal

Check the terminal on the booking before you book the hotel. Airlines move terminals from time to time, and the hotel that suits your boss for Terminal 5 is not the right one for Terminal 4.

  • Terminal 5 (British Airways and some partners): Sofitel London Heathrow by walkway, or Thistle London Heathrow Terminal 5 by pod.
  • Terminal 4: Hilton London Heathrow Airport by walkway, or Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4 on foot.
  • Terminals 2 and 3: Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 by walkway, or Aerotel inside Terminal 3.
  • Hotels on the Bath Road that are not listed here usually rely on the Hotel Hoppa bus, which adds time at 5am.

Getting to the terminal at 5am

Heathrow says travel between terminals is free on the Heathrow Express, the Elizabeth line and the Piccadilly line, as long as you only travel within the airport. You tap in with a contactless card or Oyster and are not charged. Terminals 2 and 3 are linked on foot by an underground passageway; Terminals 4 and 5 are not walkable from the others.

The Heathrow Pod to Terminal 5 from the Thistle runs from 4am. If your hotel uses the Hotel Hoppa bus, allow extra time for the first departures of the day; the adult single fare has been widely reported as £6.80, but check the operator's site before you travel.

Booking tips for PAs

A few small choices at booking save a lot of hassle when expenses are filed.

  • Pay a little more for a flexible rate if the flight could move. Airport hotel prepaid rates are often non-refundable.
  • Ask the hotel about corporate or negotiated rates if your company books Heathrow regularly. Chains such as Hilton, Accor and Premier Inn run business booking programmes.
  • Ask for a VAT invoice in the company name at checkout. UK hotel rooms carry 20% VAT, and a full VAT invoice is what your finance team needs to reclaim it.
  • Check whether breakfast opens early enough. If the flight is before 7am, ask whether the hotel offers a breakfast bag or early continental option.
  • If the traveller is driving, compare a park, sleep and fly package with the airport's own car parks before you book.
  • There is no HMRC nightly cap on UK hotel rooms; the limit is your company policy. This guide uses value for money rather than a fixed ceiling.

Which Heathrow hotels can you walk to?

Heathrow no longer allows dedicated hotel shuttle buses, so a hotel you can walk from saves both time and a bus fare. These are the walkable options by terminal.

  • Terminal 5: Sofitel London Heathrow, linked by a covered walkway. It is the only hotel attached to Terminal 5.
  • Terminal 4: Hilton London Heathrow Airport, Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4, Crowne Plaza London Heathrow T4 and Holiday Inn Express London Heathrow T4 all sit on the same covered walkway. The old YOTEL in Terminal 4 has closed.
  • Terminal 3: Aerotel, in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall. Heathrow says Terminal 2 is a short walk through the pedestrian tunnel via the Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3 station.
  • Terminal 3 airside: No1 Bedrooms, inside the No1 Lounge after security, with rooms available from 06:00 to 22:30. Useful for a long transfer, not for an overnight stay before a morning flight.
  • Terminals 2 and 3: Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow Terminals 2 and 3, reached through the short stay car park.
  • Hatton Cross: Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow Airport at Hatton Cross is a 3 to 4 minute walk from Hatton Cross Tube station, one stop before the airport. Not easy with heavy cases.

If the hotel is not walkable

Hotel Hoppa buses link many nearby hotels with every terminal and usually run from 04:00 to midnight. Tickets can be bought online, in the app, at hotel kiosks or from the driver. Hoppa routes stop at several hotels, so they are slower than local buses.

The Heathrow Pod to Terminal 5, which runs from behind the Thistle, has been reported at £8.75 per person each way. Keep the receipt for the expense claim.
