The DSE Regulations Schedule requires a work surface that is large enough and low-reflectance, and that allows a flexible arrangement of screen, keyboard and documents. Many home desks are shallow, so check the depth allows the screen to sit about an arm's length away, as HSE's posture guidance suggests.
If staff use a laptop, HSE recommends a separate keyboard and mouse so the laptop screen can be raised on a riser, or a separate display screen.
HSE says assessments for home workers do not usually need a home visit, and workers can complete a self-assessment if they have had suitable training. Staff who work both at home and in the office should have both set-ups assessed.
On tax, GOV.UK says employers do not have to report or pay tax on equipment and supplies provided to a home worker if they are only used for business, or if any private use is insignificant. You decide how much private use you allow, but you need to tell staff clearly.
